My teaching technique are as follows:
1. Greetings. Greet the students with a smile and always acknowledge their names.
2. Motivation. Sing a song, ask questions, or play short games that are related to the topic that will be discussed or previously discussed.
3. Discussion. Discuss the lesson in a way that the student will understand better.
4.Activity. Games, activities or short quizzes to test what the student learned. If they have missed some points in the lesson, give another example that will make them understand better.
5. Review/Homework. Ask short questions or give homework so students will not forget the lesson immediately.
Hello everyone! My name is Shaina.
Why is English important?
English is the most widely used language in the world with over a billion speakers. This universal language is important for the world to communicate. It is not only used for professional purposes but also for camaraderie or making friends. As globalization advances, so does English too. This is the time we improve our skills in English to communicate and participate in this progressive world.
Why do you want to be an English teacher?
Teaching as a profession has always been a part of my life since I was a child. My mother is a public teacher so usually; I observed her class when I was young. I admired her for it and that dream stuck with me. When I went to school and encountered English, I knew that this subject was my favorite. I have always been interested with this subject and classes had been fun most of the time. This resulted to me choosing Bachelor in Secondary Education majoring in English in university. I loved the lessons and I learned a lot, making me love the subject even more. I also grabbed the opportunity to work in BPO where I got to have real time conversations with native speakers of English. I got more confident in speaking the language through it as I used it mainly for communicating. I want to share the lessons I learned and my experiences so that more people can have fun learning English like I did. I want to make a safe space and a fun class for students so that they will also love using the language and not just learn it.
How to teach efficiently?
Mastery of the subject being taught is a given but pedagogy or the method and practice of teaching is equally important too. The teacher should know the strategies and methods to make students understand the lesson effectively. My strategy is to get to know my students first. Their capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses. The students are my starting point because the class is for them. Second is to create a safe place where they can freely ask questions and make mistakes. Mistakes will be corrected but not in a condescending way rather, I want to be someone who motivate students to be confident in making mistakes in class. After all, that is part of learning. Third is to create fun and equally challenging activities. This is also connected to the students' interests. I want to create and ask questions incorporating authentic situations or situations that happen in real life so that they will know when and where to use the lessons they learned.
